Hi. I'm an English vet student, with ambitions in production animal medicine, and a passion for infectious diseases (especially viral ones) and epidemiology. I have many opinions on farming, welfare and disease control to name but a few things, and have decided it would be good to try to express them in a rational way occasionally, if in part to help myself to properly think them through.
I particularly want to deal with some farm-related animal welfare issues on here, because it upsets me how ignorant the majority of the general public is - the way that people come out with knee-jerk opinions on welfare issues without really thinking or having done any research, and how hypocritical they can be.
Finally, I am a scientist. My challenge to myself is that everything I write on here will be backed up with evidence - I promise to cite things where I can.
Things I intend to blog about in the near future include superdairies, badger culling, Why Animal Rights Activists are Doing It Wrong, and probably avian influenza and bluetongue control. Possibly prion diseases as well if I get that far... I mean, it's not as though I have exams to pass or anything.
So if you're interested, please come back and visit - I promise to have put something more interesting up soon!
